My First Trip to The Metropolitan Museum

It was my first experience going to The Metropolitan Museum today and saw many excellent examples of different ways of looking at the human body structure.

My favorite part was seeing the beautiful gowns in the "fashion in the age of technology" exhibition. I saw pieces that used interesting techniques to grab the viewers attention. The first beautiful gown that you see at the entrance of the exhibition is a great example of just that.

It uses :
-many little pieces and details which makes the viewer not get bored of seeing the dress.
-making the dress its self very simple to emphasize on the beautiful  beaded cape in the back

Next we took a trip to see the exhibition of greek and rome statues and there,we did a few sketches to see how the human body actually looks with a little bit of motion. This helped me think about how to  shape the dresses and clothes to compliment the shape and motion of the human body.

Amours which do, compliment the shape of the human body very well, used many curves and many different pieces to fit the shape well. With this, I realized that when a clothing is too fitted to the human body,
-you have to make sure the material is adjusted to move with the human motion in order to make  something wearable.

But then it also doesn't have to look like an armour, that just looks like a wearable version of your body.  The best clothing are extra ordinary and a little out side the box.

The mask below does not look like the face of one of the statues in the greek and roman exhibition but it sure does still look like a face. I feel it is the same thing with fashion too. It doesn't have to look a certain way to call it a piece of clothing.

With these ideas that i got from visiting, I would like to work the ideas into my future projects with designing and making clothing.

Had a great day at the MET. Learned lots of new things.
