Our first official class

Wednesday, we officially grabbed our materials and started creating.

♡ In my class was with Karen,  we got in our groups and actually started to put the dress together
✴︎ In the afternoon with Paul, I drew my first figure drawing with a person posing in front of me

We all agreed on Monday that we want to make a gown with some kind of light up twist to it, like the one Claire Danes wore to the Met Gala. (picture on the left) Then we had to think of a way to create the gown with some kind of unusual material. Something we wouldn't usually do not use for a dress.

On Tuesday at the MET we got inspired by the beautiful gowns that we saw and decided that we want to use metal or plastic materials to make the fish scale look. (pictures on the right) We also thought that these materials will work to make the lights that we were planning to put inside the dress, shine and sparkle.

On the way back, we remembered that we also needed to agree on some kind of dress shape and base material to create the look.

We looked up some ideas and decided we would like a mermaid shape to compliment the curves of the  human body and a flare with feathers at the bottom half of the dress (←example ) to create a elegant look with the scales going down the middle part of the body.
It was a long day and we were tired but we decided to go to Bed Bath and beyond after we were dismissed to find some pillows with the feathers in them,  a shower curtain for the base of the dress, and some fairy lights.

←close to what we were thinking about but also with scales going down the middle of the body and the lights at the bottom.

・Wednesday's Process・

・used the shower curtain rings for an off the shoulder look and the base of the top
・made the rest of the fabric the bottom half of our piece and used some hot glue gun to pinch the fabric to make a mermaid, fin type of shape.

#next class we need to...
gather some cans and plastic bottles for the fins and add the feathers , lights on the bottoms

In the afternoon we did some speed sketching of a woman's body. I like to draw realistic figures so it was a great practice for me and I also got to learn a lot about the different movements of the human body. It was important to use long lines to create the sketch instead of small dashes because one, it will take forever and two, it is better to use long curving lines to make smooth shapes of the body.
I realised from this class that I actually did the assignment to draw the shape of our hands with a background seriously wrong. I need to redo it.
